Derg marina developers dismissive attitude toward local community’s genuine concerns ‘Extremely Disappointing’
The dismissive attitude of the developers of the Derg Marina project toward the local community’s genuine concerns is ‘extremely disappointing’, according to Joe Cahalane, spokesperson for the Ballina Marina Action Group.
“Let me make one point perfectly clear, we have always been in favour of the development of the Derg Marina and still are. It is the design and scale of the development that has caused so much concern and the developers know this. Why? Because it is quite simply a massive structure for such a small heritage town which will look totally out of place and put extraordinary pressure on what is already an over-burdened services infrastructure.”
“A four hour presentation in a local hotel is far from being a public consultation process. We asked for the detailed plans, we asked for an Environmental Impact Assessment and the developers stated very publicly that they would put their plans on public display. None of this happened.”
“Now the developers are attempting to dismiss us and our genuine concerns. Yet it is us, the residents, the local community who are the ones who will have to live with the consequences of this project. We have made perfectly reasonable requests which have been ignored. It is an extremely disappointing response but not a response that will deter the local community from continuing the vital process of ensuring that the right marina development for Ballina/Killaloe is built.”
